Aloha and Welcome to Ala Kai,
a bed & breakfast and vacation cottage by the sea. We are located
at Kaloli Point on the rugged Puna Peninsula. Off Highway 130 between
Kea’au and Pahoa, Ala Kai Bed & Breakfast and Vacation
Cottage is a scenic 17 mile drive south of the Big Island of Hawaii’s
Hilo airport and 25 miles northeast of Volcanoes National Park.
Ala Kai, in Hawaiian, means by the sea or road by the sea. Once
you see our beautiful home, you will understand why we chose that
name.
For the early risers, we invite you to start your day with the
often-spectacular sunrise on the ocean. Then enjoy a leisurely breakfast
featuring local fruits, Kona coffee, teas, juice and much more.
If you would like to check your emails, wireless internet connection
is available. Then stroll along the oceanfront, hike over lava fields,
wander through the rainforest or observe the active volcanoes. Be
sure to relax on the lanai, enjoy the ocean breeze, read your favorite
book or watch the whales from December through April.
Then allow the tranquil sounds of the ocean and palm trees lull
you to sleep in one of two guestrooms in the main house. If you
desire more seclusion, the Ohana (cottage) is a two bedroom vacation
rental with a fully equipped kitchen with its own lanai.
