Big Island Snorkeling
To experience Big Island snorkeling is to witness the birth of an island. Being the youngest in the Hawaiian chain, the Big Island boasts extensive lava flats, deep underwater crevices, dynamic weather, and raw coastline.
Pu'u O'o Crater
The Pu'u O'o crater in Volcanoes National Park has been erupting continuously since January 3, 1983, making it the longest-lived rift-zone eruption of the last two centuries.
Thurston Lava Tube
As you walk through the tube consider that several hundred years ago a river of red lava rushed through. And that lava currently travels from Pu'u O'o to the ocean in a labyrinth of lava tubes much like this one.
Akaka Falls State Park is about 11 miles north of Hilo and includes this 422 foot waterfall. The falls can be viewed from several points along a loop trail through the park.
With over 150 miles of trails in Volcanoes National Park, exploration by walking and hiking can be a fascinating and enjoyable experience.
